Using Find My iPhone on a browser

If you have a laptop or a computer nearby, you can use it to find your missing iPhone, iPad or iPod extremely easily. It’s all done via iCloud.com, and as before, it’s a piece of cake. Anyone can do it in a couple of steps.

  1. First, open iCloud.com on your browser.
  2. Log into your account and click on Find iPhone from the main menu.
  3. At the top, there should be an All Devices tab. Click on it. It will take you to a new page which will show you all of the available devices you can track.
  4. Select the one which is missing. This automatically opens up the map where you can zoom in and out to track it more closely.
  5. There are even three modes you can use:
    • Play Sound (you use this to locate the device if it’s lost in your house)
    • Lost mode (you enter a phone number which is automatically displayed on your lost device)
    • Erase (if you think someone’s stolen it and you’re not getting it back, this will erase all of your personal information).

Do note that if your device is stolen or lost and you know you’re not going to get it back, it’s still best to report that to the authorities and the local law enforcement. Don’t attempt to retrieve the device on your own, even if you know where it is. Chances are that if someone has stolen it, they won’t be willing to give it back. In situations like that, it’s best to just erase all data and let the police handle it.
