How to Embed a YouTube Video in PowerPoint

Have you gone to create a PowerPoint Presentation, but it’s not enough to get the attention of your viewers? Or are you looking to put the video on your PowerPoint instead of clicking a url, which takes time to go the website, wasting precious moments of your time? Then, you should consider embedding a YouTube Video in PowerPoint. This is a great way to up the value of your PowerPoint, and people will appreciate it, too.

Present Day Embedding

Anymore, it is so much easier to embed a video in a PowerPoint than it was in the past.

  1. To start, open up PowerPoint on your PC.
  2. After deciding what kind of backdrop you want, on the lefthand side of the screen, you will see the “Slides” area. Right-click in that area to create another side.
  3. Pick the slide that allows for bullets to help you with sharing mass amounts of information.
  4. When deciding on your slide, click on the “Insert” tab at the top, lefthand side of your screen.
  5. After you have done that, go over to the tab that says, “Movie.” The icon looks like a piece of old footage.
  6. By clicking this icon, a scroll box will give you two options: “Movie from File” and “Movie from Clip Organizer.”
  7. Pick the first one. This will open up a separate box that will ask you what movie you want to use for your PowerPoint.
  8. At this point, hopefully you have already downloaded and saved the movie you are interested in using. Click the video you want and hit “Open.” From this point, the video will now be embedded onto the slide. You will have the choice to pick when you want the video to start: automatically or when you click the screen.

Manual Embedding

To manually embed a video:

  1. Open PowerPoint, click File, and scroll down to options.
  2. In options, select “Customize Ribbon.” When you are customizing, choose “Main Tabs” from the dropdown menu entitled “Choose commands from.” Make sure to highlight “Developer,” click to create a check next to the Add button, and click “Ok.”
  3. Next, go to the “More Controls” icon, which looks like a screwdriver and wrench. A new box will present itself. Choose “Shockwave Flash Object.”
  4. Now, a box will show up on your slide. You can drag the box to center it, or make it bigger or small, depending on your needs.

Preparing your URL

Before you add the URL to your embedded video, you need to change a few things. If your URL is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj8QTu1kIFw, you need to make these changes.

  1. First, take out the “watch?” completely, and change the equal sign (=) to a “/.” Your URL will now look like https://www.youtube.com/v/Pj8QTu1klFw.
  2. Copy these changes and go back to the box you created on your slide. Right-click the box and scroll down to “Property Sheet.” There will be a Movie tab, where you can paste your URL. You will now have an Embedded Video.

Embedding a Video in PowerPoint is a must in the professional world. This will help you make your presentation look professional, clean, and crisp for all to see. Give it a shot today.
